Since being single I have been trying to find ways to connect with men on their level … two things come to mind: video games and sports. Video games have never been my cup of tea. I’ve been told by a few friends that I’m video game illiterate or have no eye and hand coordination. That leaves me with sports! I enjoy going to games and I can even tolerate watching a game. However I can honestly say I have no clue what’s going on half the time … it’s all Greek to me. So with the help of one of my smart and handsome male friends; he has broken down the basic information females need to know when it comes to basketball and football.
Let’s start with basketball here are a few important days: The season started on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 and the season ends Wednesday, April 16, 2014. The playoffs will begin on Saturday, April 19, 2014 and NBA All- Star Game is February 16, 2014.
Football regular season is from September 5 through December 29, 2013. Playoffs stat January 4, 2014 and the Super Bowl XL VIII will be February 2, 2014 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
First things first … you need to pick a team. You can pick a team for any reason. Team color, the state they play for or simply because you think that some guy is the best looking in the league. Whatever your reason it doesn’t really matter you just have to pick a team.
Once you’ve pick a team please know basic facts about the team:
- · Know the city the team is from
- · Know the team colors
- · Know their mascot
- · Know a few of the major players on the team
- · Know the name of the coach
We’re almost done …Now here is the hard part: learning the scoring system.
Basketball players can score different points depending on where they are on the court. If shot from inside the 3 point arc its 2 points and outside is 3 points. If a player is fouled they get a free throw which is 1 point.
Football is really complicated when it comes to scoring just know that a touch down is 6 points. Ask your man to explain the extra …
So that’s pretty much … I think that’s a good start! *Kanye Shrug* Good Luck Boo
FYI don’t be afraid to ask questions that’s how you’ll learn and there are people narrating the whole game
Notes from my trusted male adviser
Instead of putting the actual dates, you just say “Football is generally 17 weeks with 1 week off called a Bye week” This is known as the regular season…Followed by 3 weeks known as the playoffs for the best 12 teams (6 from NFC and 6 from AFC). Then the best two teams from the playoffs have a week off then play in the super bowl.
Basketball plays a total of 82 Games, 41 away and 41 home games. Then that too is followed by playoff’s which is 4 weeks depending on who can win 4 games in the match up first. Then you have the championship game which is best out of 7.
Keep in mind this is not to say that in order to land/ keep a man, this is more so to be used as a bonding technique. Maybe the guy you like are really into sports, you now know a few of the basics to show him you’re at least interested in something he’s interested in. You may actually find out that you enjoy watching sports and find yourself watching them on your own. Just keep an open mind with sports, it may seem difficult at first but mid-way through a season you will find it’s easier to follow along.
